Late '60s gem with Paul Cotton and Kal David as principal members. Cotton later went on to replace Jim Messina in Poco and penned "Bad Weather", one of their more notable hits (and on which he sang lead). The song actually first appeared on the second ISP album, "Duet." David went on to form The Fabulous Rhinestones with, among others, ex-Electric Flag bass player Harvey Brooks. The Rhinestones were criminally underrated and underappreciated. ISP's debut LP combines elements of rock, R&B and country and is distinguished by the dual lead guitar work of Cotton and David. I purchased my copy in 1969, the year it was released, in the basement of Gimbel's department store in NE Philly. I wore it out on my Magnavox portable stereo, so, being able to get this recent re-release on vinyl was a real pleasure. Great music is timeless, and I love it now just as much as I did then. This album holds a special place in my heart because of the song, "P.N.S. (Paul's New Song) - When You Come Around". It's an excellent, extended guitar jam that a dear, departed friend and several other college buddies used to sit around and play as we all communed with Ali Rama. You don't have to believe me. You can find this, and other songs from the album, on You Tube. It's well worth your time to check out, and then buy a copy of your own.
